Stay out from under hanging limbs and out of any building the tree has hit.
Treat power lines as live
If lines are down or touching the tree, stay at least 10 metres away and call Powercor on 13 24 12. If anyone is in danger, call 000.

Take photos if it’s safe
Before anything is moved — they help us plan and help your insurance claim. If the tree has damaged your home or car, or blocks your way in or out, you can also call VICSES on 132 500.
What we do on site
Make it safe first. Hung-up limbs, split stems and leaning trees are dealt with before anything else.
Then take the weight off buildings and vehicles in a controlled way — cutting and lifting sections rather than dragging, so we don’t add to the damage.
Finish when it’s safe to. In high wind or darkness we may make the site safe and come back to finish the removal and clean-up in daylight.
We’ll talk through the cost with you before we start. Many home insurance policies cover removing a tree that has damaged an insured building — check with your insurer early, and keep your photos.

Do you work at night or in a storm?
We’ll come out to make a dangerous situation safe. If it isn’t safe for our crew to finish in the dark or in high wind, we’ll secure the site and complete the job as soon as conditions allow.
Will my insurance pay for it?
Often, if the tree has damaged an insured building — but policies differ. Call your insurer early, take photos before anything is moved, and keep your invoice.
A neighbour’s tree fell on my property. What now?
Deal with the danger first — call us to make it safe. Then talk to your insurer. For disagreements about who is responsible, the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria offers free help.
Who do I call about a tree on a power line?
Powercor, on 13 24 12 (or 000 if anyone is in danger). Stay at least 10 metres away, assume the line is live, and never try to pull branches off it. Once Powercor has made the line safe, we can deal with the tree.
